Baramulla, Dec 10: Three days after a teenager from Sopore went missing from city school in Aligarh, Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday said that it traced the 10th grade student from railway station Sopore here in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that Masroor Abbas Mir of Bohripora area of Sopore was found at railway station Sopore on Saturday evening.
“Soon after locating him near the railway station, we informed his family members. After all legal proceedings he was handed over to the family,” he added.
Masroor Abbas son of Mohammad Abbas Mir had gone missing from AMU on December 08 and a high alert was launched across Aligarh and adjacent areas to trace the missing boy.
A relative of Masroor told Rising Kashmir over phone that the teenager was a bit depressed and reached home on Saturday.
“From Aligarh Railway station, Masroor had boarded a train upto Agra and from there a lorry upto Banihal. He has reached home safely. We thank everyone for their support and prayers in locating Masroor,” he added.
He further added that Masroor’s phone had got switched off and soon after de-boarding at the Sopore railway station, he called from some passenger’s phone.
“We informed the police the very next moment about his location where from he was handed over to family by the police,” he said.
Earlier SP City Aligarh Kuldeep Singh Gunawat in a video statement said that soon after the missing report, a high alert was issued by the police under Operation Khushi.
“It was reported that the boy has been found in his home district. During the investigation, the said boy was found to have left of his own free will,” he added.
A CCTV footage was also released by Aligarh police in which the teenager was seen roaming independently at the railway station.
“The 17 year old student of section A-2 Raja Mahendra Pratap City High School, took his cousin’s ATM card and mobile and withdrew 5000 cash from an ATM.
An FIR was lodged and search for the missing was initiated by forming teams,” SP City Kuldeep Singh Gunawat said.
Earlier in the day, the family members and relatives of the student, staged the protest in Sopore town and sought his whereabouts as they had lost contact with him for the past three days.
