• OGWs are being used to carry out soft target attacks: Officials

Srinagar, Oct 19: In response to the recent killing of a migrant labourer in Shopian, security agencies have been directed to enhance vigilance and surveillance across the south Kashmir region. Officials report that Over Ground Workers (OGWs) are being utilized to carry out attacks on soft targets.
A senior police officer informed Rising Kashmir that the region has witnessed multiple terror incidents over the past ten days, resulting in more than two fatalities. In light of these events, security measures have been intensified in southern Kashmir districts.
“We have identified over 11 sensitive areas in the region. The deployment of forces will be doubled, and strict vigilance is being maintained to address any security loopholes,” the officer stated.
In addition to increased surveillance, checkpoints and frisking points have been established. Protected individuals are advised to notify local police before any travel.
“Terrorists aim to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the Valley, generating fear through various underground agencies. The OGWs are being exploited to target vulnerable populations,” the police officer added.
While assuring the public that the situation is under control, the official emphasized that anti-terror operations will continue, with efforts focused on apprehending OGWs involved in recent attacks.
Following the migrant labourer’s murder in Wachi, Shopian, several individuals are under scrutiny as part of the investigation. The labourer, identified as Ashok Chauhan from Bihar, was found with multiple bullet wounds, marking the first targeted killing in the Valley since the government led by Omar Abdullah took charge on October 16.

LG, CM condemn killing of labourer
Srinagar, Oct 19: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condemned the brutal killing of labourer Ashok Chauhan by terrorists in Shopian on Friday.
“I strongly condemn the brutal killing of a vendor Ashok Chauhan in Shopian by cowardly terrorists. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with his family. Our security forces are determined to hunt down the culprits and bring them to justice. My thoughts are with his family members and friends in this time of grief. I have directed the Jammu Kashmir Police and District Administration to extend all the support,” the Lt Governor said.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also condemned the killing of labourer and said these attacks are abhorrent and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. “I send my condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” Abdullah said on X.
