Srinagar, Oct 19: The joint teams of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday apprehended two terrorists along with ammunition in Surankote area of Poonch district, officials said.
ADGP Jammu, Anand Jain said that it is a big achievement for security forces as two terrorists were apprehended who had carried out activities like grenade lobbying, anti-national posters were put up.
“Grenades were thrown at Gurudwaras, temples, hospitals, army bases. They wanted to disturb the communal harmony of the area,” he said.
Army Spokesman Jammu division, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said that in a significant blow to terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, a joint operation led by the Indian Army and J&K Police was successfully conducted in the Poonch sector based on intelligence inputs.
“ The operation, carried out on 18 Oct 2024, resulted in the capture of two terrorists, Abdul Aziz and Manwar Hussain. Security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition, and grenades from the suspects, disrupting their operational capabilities,” he said.
Lt Col Bartwal said that this operation marks a crucial step in dismantling terror networks, as both individuals were involved in orchestrating terror activities, including grenade attacks on religious sites and hospitals, terror financing, anti-national propaganda, and arms smuggling.
“The recent arrests have weakened the logistical and operational networks of terror groups in the region, signalling a strong setback to their efforts,” he said.
The spokesman said that the Indian Army’s swift and coordinated response, in collaboration with the J&K Police, has not only ensured the safety of civilians but has also dealt a decisive blow to the terror ecosystem in the area.
“This success follows last month’s arrest of a terrorist associate, underscoring the relentless efforts of the Indian Army and security forces to ensure peace and stability in the region,” Lt Col Bartwal said.

“The old mortar shell was noticed by tractor driver Balkrishan in a field at village Spalwan near border police post Chakra in Hiranagar sector this afternoon,” he said.
