Pulwama, March 04: A super micro plastic surgery has been successfully conducted at sub-district hospital (SDH) Pampore which is a first of its kind procedure at peripheral level in the entire area of this Southern district.
Doctors at SDH Pampore said that a young man reported the health facility with amputated right index finger and middle one.
Resident Medical Officer ( RMO) SDH Pampore, Dr Bilal Ahmad, said that the youth had crush injury in a motorbike accident.
“ The proximal digits of both the fingers were amputated after they were severely crushed and the amputated parts were not preserved as per medical standards,” he said.
He further said the fingers were reconstructed by digital artery and nerve based neurovascular flaps elevated under magnification.
“This was a super micro plastic procedure done to give a sensate and glabrous skin cover to fingertips,” he said.
The procedure was done by on call plastic surgeon Dr Abid Saleem who was supported by Dr Sharief u Din Orthopaedic surgeon and Dr Ulfat, anesthetist.
He added that such procedures are normally not conducted at Peripheral level and patients have to report to super-speciality care hospitals like SKIMS or SMHS.
“For performing this procedure we are thankful to Director Health Services Kashmir who deputed plastic surgeon, Dr Abid Saleem at SDH Pampore for this surgery,” Dr Bilal said.
Dr Sharief u Din, Orthopaedician at SDH Pampore, said that it took them around three hours to complete the procedure.
He said that the patient has been discharged from the hospital.
The doctors said that SDH Pampore has taken an initiative and that they hope patients will benefit from availability of such procedures here as they will not have to move to tertiary care hospitals for availing such services.
The civil society members applauded authorities at SDH Pampore for adding one more feat to their feather by successfully conducting this procedure.
