Jammu, Sept 06: A high-level team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) concluded a two-day visit to flood-affected areas across the Jammu region to assess the extensive damage caused by recent cloudbursts, flash floods, and heavy rains.
The team conducted on-ground inspections and held detailed meetings with local administration and officials to evaluate the losses to public infrastructure and private property.
According to official sources, the visit follows a recent assurance by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who during his visit to the region, promised central government compensation for every family affected by the floods.
During their visit, the MHA officials toured various severely impacted areas in Jammu, including Kishtwar, and met with affected residents to gather firsthand accounts of the devastation.
MLAs Yudhvir Sethi (Jammu East) and Arvind Gupta (Jammu West) told Rising Kashmir that the MHA team engaged directly with victims to understand the extent of the losses.
Sources said the team has compiled a comprehensive damage assessment report, which will soon be submitted to the central government. A substantial relief and rehabilitation package is expected to follow based on the findings of this report.
The recent extreme weather has triggered widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and displacement in parts of Jammu, prompting urgent calls for assistance from both the public and political representatives.
