MeT predicts 2-day light rain in J&K

Srinagar, June 28: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecasted a two-day light to light rains in both maximum parts of Jammu and Kashmir from Saturday evening till 30th July 03, officials said.

Director Meteorological Department Centre Kashmir Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that light rain is expected in Kashmir and Jammu regions that will bring relief from scorching heatwave in the UT.

“There is a possibility of light to moderate rain, thundershower at many places of Jammu division towards late night and light rain at few places of Kashmir division,” he said.

Dr Mukhtar said that from 1st to 5th , July there will be gradual rise in rainfall intensity from 2nd July onwards with possibility of intermittent light to moderate rainfall at many places with heavy showers at few places for a brief period can’t be ruled out.

The MeT department has issued an advisory that there is a possibility of landslides and mudslides at few vulnerable places. Few places may experience moderate thunderstorms and lightning, it said.

As per MeT data, Srinagar recorded 32.8°C as maximum temperature and 19.6°C as minimum temperature. Ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest with a high of 24.0 degrees Celsius and 14.2 as minimum temperature.

Health resort Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded 29.4 C as maximum temperature and 11.4°C as minimum temperature respectively. Jammu recorded 38.6°C as maximum temperature and 27.7 as minimum temperatures

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 31.7°C. Banihal recorded 30.0°C as maximum temperature and 19.8 as minimum temperatures.

As per the traffic spokesman, on Saturday  subject to fair weather and road clearance, SANJY Convoy /LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing this traffic.

“Moreover, in view of forth coming Shri Amarnath Ji yatra 2024 and hassle free movement of trucks on NH-44 administration has decided all tankers of Pol, Diesel, LPG bulk gas, all empty LPG Cylinders carrying trucks; all empty vehicles of FCI; any other vehicle having upto 10-tyres shall adopt Mughal Road,” he said.

Similarly, vehicular movement on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road shall be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0730 hrs. to 1100 hrs.

LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings.

On Mughal road, vehicular movement on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides viz. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) at 0600 hrs. upto 1800 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings, he added.
