Meet Shabir Ahmad Parah: A beacon of excellence in scientific research

In the realm of academia and scientific research, recognition on a global stage is a rare and prestigious honor. Dr. Shabir Ahmad Parah, a Senior Assistant Professor at the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Technology, University of Kashmir, hailing from Zazuna area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has achieved this distinction by consistently featuring in Stanford University’s list of the Top 2 percent scientists in the world for the fourth consecutive year. This remarkable accomplishment not only brings pride to his university but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring researchers.
 
The Stanford University Scientist Ranking
Stanford University’s Scientist ranking, a comprehensive database curated by John Ioannidis, is a testament to the global impact of scientific works. Published by Elsevier, the 2023 edition evaluated scientists from across the world based on composite C-Scores, placing Dr. Shabir in the Field of Networking and Telecommunications, specifically in the sub-field of Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing, Information and Communication Technologies. This recognition is a testament to the tremendous impact of his research in areas such as Multimedia security and Biomedical Image processing.
 
Research Excellence
Dr. Shabir’s academic prowess is reflected in his extensive body of work. He has authored over 185 research papers published in internationally renowned journals and conferences. His contributions have garnered significant attention, with a cumulative Web of Science impact factor exceeding 330. Notably, his research has found a home in prestigious publications such as IEEE Transactions, IEEE Journals, Elsevier, Springer, and Wiley.
In addition to his research papers, Dr. Shabir has also ventured into book editing, overseeing the publication of three books on topics ranging from Multimedia Security to Artificial Intelligence for Innovative Healthcare Informatics. His comprehensive engagement extends to more than 30 book chapters published by reputable publishers like Elsevier and Springer.
 
Academic Mentorship
Dr. Shabir’s commitment to academia extends beyond his publications. He has supervised ten doctoral students, guiding them to achieve their Ph.D. degrees in Electronics. Moreover, he has contributed to the academic growth of over 30 M.Phil and M.Tech theses, further expanding his influence in the field of electronics and instrumentation technology.

Dr. Shabir has cultivated strong research partnerships with renowned institutions such as Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) and Sejong University in South Korea, the University of Bradford in the UK, and the University of Technology Sydney in Australia, among others. Awards and Recognition
Dr. Shabir’s journey has not gone unnoticed, and his dedication has been rewarded with six IEEE Conference awards, including three Best Technical Paper Awards. His notable achievements include the Best Algorithmica Award at ICIIP-Shimla in 2017 and the Best Paper Award in the Image Security track at IEEE-IBSSC-Mumbai in 2022. These accolades are a testament to the quality and impact of his research.

In his own words, Dr. Shabir Ahmad Parah acknowledges the role of his mentor, Late Prof. G. Mohiuddin Bhat, his family, research scholars, co-authors, colleagues, and collaborators who have contributed to his success. His journey, which began in 2020 as the sole representative from the University of Kashmir in Stanford University’s prestigious list, has since grown, with ten more colleagues from the same institution joining him.
