Srinagar, Aug 6: Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattu made a visit to Lal Chowk to inspect the ongoing works at the city center. During his visit, he praised the SMC Works Wing for their exceptional work in delivering the new iconic Clock Tower in record time without compromising on the quality of the project.
Accompanied by senior engineers and officials from Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL), the mayor also assessed the progress of other ongoing works at the city center. He directed the officials to redouble their efforts to expedite the completion of these projects.
Additionally, Junaid Mattu interacted with local traders and their representatives to gain insights into the impact of these transformative developments on their businesses and the city as a whole.
Speaking to the media at Lal Chowk, Mayor Mattu expressed his satisfaction with the city’s transformation over the last five years, turning Srinagar into a modern tourist destination with upgraded infrastructure for both locals and visitors. He emphasized that this urban revitalization had already shown positive results, with a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting the city, boosting its economic prospects.
The mayor highlighted the shift in Srinagar’s status as a tourist destination, no longer just a transit point for travellers heading to other popular spots. Thanks to the recent efforts, tourists were now spending more time exploring Srinagar’s cultural richness and scenic beauty. Mattu said.
The success of hotels and houseboats during successive seasons was a testament to the city’s cultural and economic revival.
Encouraged by the positive changes, Mayor Mattu announced plans to propose new projects for Lal Chowk to further enhance its significance and make it one of the most iconic City Centers and Plazas in the entire country. He assured the local traders that no effort would be spared to achieve this ambitious vision.
With these groundbreaking developments and the mayor’s commitment to continuous improvement, Srinagar is set to reclaim its position as a vibrant and thriving city, attracting both domestic and international tourists alike. The residents and traders eagerly await the realization of these projects, which promise to elevate Srinagar to new heights of cultural and economic glory, Mattu added.
