Srinagar, March 05: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that the Master Plan for Pattan town is still under consideration and stated that the town has not been included in the “Drone Mapping” Scheme.
In a written reply to queries from MLA Pattan, Javaid Riyaz Bedar, CM Omar Abdullah who also serves as Minister for Housing and Urban Development said Pattan town’s Master Plan has yet to be finalized, significant efforts are underway to upgrade its infrastructure.
In response to a question raised by MLA Pattan Reyaz Bedar regarding the introduction of the “Drone Mapping” Scheme in Pattan Town, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah clarified that Pattan Town has not been included in the initiative.
Regarding the town’s development, it was confirmed that the Municipal Committee (MC) of Pattan is responsible for overseeing the overall growth and infrastructural improvements Omar said that MC has been actively involved in various developmental projects across different sectors, playing a crucial role in the town’s progress.
When questioned about the preparation of a Master Plan for Pattan Town, he acknowledged that the creation of Master Plans for all major towns is under consideration. While the preparation of the Master Plan for Pattan Town is not yet finalized, several development projects are currently underway to improve infrastructure, sanitation, and overall urban development.
“The Municipal Committee has undertaken several significant developmental initiatives funded through Finance Commission (FC) Grants. Key ongoing projects include the construction of a new shopping complex at Mini Bus Adda Pattan, with an estimated cost of Rs. 137.2 Lakhs, which is 80% complete. Additionally, the construction of bus ports at MC Pattan, with a budget of Rs. 50.0 Lakhs, is 68% complete,” he said.
CM Omar said other projects include the macadamization of inner roads in the town, which has an allocated budget of Rs. 200.0 Lakhs, and the beautification of Pattan Town, with Phase 1 completed at a cost of Rs. 125.0 Lakhs. Other infrastructure projects are also underway, including the development of footpaths, retaining walls, and the upgrading of lanes, drains, and roads.
“The Public Works (R&B) Department has contributed significantly to the town’s development, with completed projects such as the macadamization of inner link roads, funded with Rs. 138.88 Lakhs, and the development of link roads in Khanday Mohalla under the Urban Development Sector, with a budget of Rs. 8.06 Lakhs. The department’s plans also include further development of roads, footpaths, and shopping complexes,” CM Omar said in written reply.
In terms of water supply, the Jal Shakti Department continues to provide water through existing schemes. However, to improve water supply facilities, an approved project worth Rs. 549.00 Lakhs has been tendered under the AMRUT 2.0 initiative.
“The Power Development Department (KPDCL) has ensured reliable power infrastructure in Pattan Town, with further improvements planned under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to enhance the power distribution system,” he added.
