Anantnag, Jan 10: Mass ‘Surya Namaskar’ demonstration was held on Wednesday at the renowned Martand Sun Temple in Anantnag to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The programme was organised by Ayush Department in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga New Delhi and the Archaeological Survey of India.
An official said, District Ayush Officer Anantnag, orchestrated the event under the guidance of Director Ayush, Dr. Mohan Singh.
“District Development Commissioner Anantnag, S F Hamid was invited as the Chief Guest. Guests of honour included the 2nd Commandment CRPF, Deputy Commandant CRPF 96 battalion, and the Assistant Conservator from the Archaeological Survey of India (Srinagar Circle),” he said.
The program commenced with the recitation of the National Anthem, followed by a mesmerizing display of SURYA NAMASKAR accompanied by standing Asanas of Yoga.
Dr. Ali Mohd Reshi, District Ayush Officer, said that the mass Surya Namaskar was conducted with the aim of boosting metabolism and fostering a healthy lifestyle. The event aimed to promote fitness, flexibility, spinal alignment, and muscular physical fitness.
He said they had extended invitations to the District Administration, Anantnag, and witnessed substantial participation from Ayush Anantnag and Ayush Kulgam paramedics and para-military personnel in the Surya Namaskar.
“This marks the second occurrence of such an event at the Martand Sun Temple. The previous significant gathering took place in 2022, with the participation of Central ministers. This event marks the first of its kind for the year,” he said.
He said the temple has a historical significance. The chosen temple holds immense historical and cultural importance. With this in mind, our aim was to convey a message of peace, love, prosperity, and brotherhood to society, he said.
“We initiated this message from this revered location, intending it to resonate in every household, encouraging the adoption of Yoga as a part of daily life. Our objective is for people to embrace a healthy lifestyle, visit Ayush centers, and avail themselves of the Ayush schemes. We express gratitude for the generous support of all participants, enabling the success of this endeavour,” he added.
