The doctors at District Hospital Handwara on Wednesday successfully performed their first cystlithotripsy surgery.
Dr. Muzzafer, a urologist at Handwara District Hospital, led the medical team that performed the first surgery.
According to the doctor who performed the first surgery, “They received an elderly patient this morning who was diagnosed with a neurogenic bladder and presented with a bladder stone.”
The doctor said the elderly patient had “multiple lumber disc prolepses and was on neurosurgical follow-up.” The patient was not able to walk without support. After a pre-anesthetic checkup, the patient was admitted to DHH for endoscopic stone fragmentation (cystolithotripsy), a procedure done through the natural urinary passage that is completely bloodless and stitchless.
The team who assisted the doctor who performed this maiden surgery were MS, anesthetist Dr. Reyaz, Operation Theater in charge Adbul Qayoom, Rouf Ahmad, Imtiyaz Ahmad, and Prince, who made this surgery possible in a remote district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Confirming the cystolithotripsy surgery, the medical superintendent of District Hospital Handwara, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Wani, said this is the first of its kind held in the border district by a team of highly qualified doctors.
He stated that they are obligated to provide any special treatment to any patient who comes to this hospital for treatment.”This is a people’s hospital, and we are here to help them in any way we can,” Ahmad explained.
