Srinagar, Oct 28: In a shocking revelation, Vanshaj Sharma, known as Player ID 17026, hailing from Bishnah near Jammu, has been slapped with a two-year ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a serious breach of regulations. Sharma is now prohibited from participating in any BCCI tournaments effective from October 27, 2023, after being found guilty of submitting multiple birth certificates, each with a different date of birth.
Presently, he is playing with Bihar Cricket Association.
This grave misconduct, which has left the cricketing world stunned, was officially announced in a press release by the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). The ban, effective immediately, will last until October 27, 2025.
In a stern message to the cricketing community, the press release emphasized that following such illicit practices could have detrimental consequences on a player’s career. In the case of Vanshaj Sharma, it was discovered that he had relocated to another state and applied to be a part of the U-23 Men’s team of Bihar, effectively changing his affiliation. However, since his initial registration with JKCA in the 2021-22 season, the BCCI maintained a record of his data.
Sharma’s audacious attempt to manipulate his date of birth, despite changing his association, was eventually uncovered, leading to the severe penalty imposed by the BCCI. Additionally, as part of his punishment, after completing the two-year ban, Sharma will only be allowed to participate in the Senior Men’s Tournament conducted by the BCCI and will be forever barred from taking part in any age group tournaments organized by the cricketing governing body.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining the integrity of the sport and the consequences that players face when attempting to deceive the system. Vanshaj Sharma’s ban from BCCI tournaments not only threatens to derail his own cricketing career but also highlights the BCCI’s commitment to upholding the rules and regulations governing the sport.
