Srinagar, Jul 16: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, on Wednesday launched a large-scale vegetable seedling distribution drive at the Kitchen Garden Lalmandi here.
Addressing the gathering, the Director said the initiative is a significant step toward promoting sustainable, home-grown vegetable cultivation. He highlighted the importance of kitchen gardening and backyard farming, especially in urban and semi-urban areas, as a means to ensure food security and healthy living.
Seed Production Officer Kashmir, Ajaz Ahmed Mir, said that over one lakh seedlings of various vegetable crops, including cauliflower and cabbage, would be distributed among farmers during this campaign.
During his visit, the Director appreciated the efforts of the officers and officials overseeing the Kitchen Garden Lalmandi project. “The department would continue to support such endeavours to provide quality vegetable seedlings to the farming community in the region,” he said.
A large number of farmers, kitchen garden enthusiasts, and backyard growers from across the district and neighbouring areas showed keen interest and enthusiasm while visiting the Lalmandi kitchen garden, reflecting the community’s support for urban and backyard farming initiatives.
