Jammu, Feb 19: Power-packed half-centuries by Kawal Preet Singh and Vernpal Singh guided Dashmesh Cricket Club and Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club to resounding victories over their rivals to stay alive in the ongoing first Sikh Premier Cricket League, being organised by HSNCC under the banner of Sikh Coordination Committee Jammu and Kashmir at University of Jammu grounds here.
Earlier, in the first match, Dashmesh Cricket Club defeated Preet Nagar Cricket Club by 43 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, Dashmesh Cricket Club scored a big total of 189 runs in 20 overs losing 6 wickets in the process. Kawal Preet Singh top scored with 69 runs off 35 balls studded with 6 fours and 4 sixes, while Chamkor Singh scored brisk 40 runs off just 18 balls with 7 fours and one six. Skipper Gurvinder Singh contributed 25 runs to the total.
For Preet Nagar United, Gursimran Singh and Amit Pal Singh took 2 wickets each. In reply, Preet Nagar United scored 146 runs in 20 overs, thus losing the match by 43 runs. Gursimran Singh played a brilliant innings of 57 runs off 43 balls studded with 8 fours and one six, while Daman Preet Singh contributed 38 off 28 balls with 2 fours and one six.
For Dashmesh Club, Gunny was the pick of the bowlers who took 4 wickets by conceding just 9 runs in his 4 overs, while Kawal Preet Singh and Gurvinder Singh bagged 2 wickets each. For his fabulous batting display Kawal Preet was declared as the player of the match. In another match of the day, Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club defeated Trikuta Cricket Club by 4 wickets. Chasing a big target of 185 runs, Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club rode on a splendid batting display by Vernpal Singh and reached it in 18.4 overs by losing 6 wickets to win the match by 4 wickets. Vernpal top scored with 65 runs off 37 balls studded with 4 fours and 5 sixes, while Amit Pal Singh and Rakinder Singh contributed 36 and 34* runs to the total respectively.
Gagan took 2 wickets for Trikuta Cricket Club, while Sarabjeet Singh, Aman and Sarabjeet Brar claimed one wicket each. Earlier, batting first, Trikuta Cricket Club scored a good total of 184/5 in 20 overs. Ammy Singh played a magnificent knock of 90 runs off 48 balls studded with 13 fours and 3 sixes, while Amit Singh and Tani contributed 28 and 25 runs to the total respectively. Gurdeep Singh took 2 wickets for Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club, while Tegvansh and Kavi claimed one wicket each. Vernpal Singh was adjudged as the player of the match for his superb batting display. The player of the match awardees were presented trophies and cheques by the dignitaries including Sh Visheshpaul Mahajan, Transport Commissioner; Sh Pankaj Bhagora, RTO Jammu; Faisal Qureshi SSP and Kameshwar Puri SSP. The tournament is being organised under the overall supervision of Sh Ajit Singh, Chairman Sikh Coordination Committee Jammu and Kashmir, while the matches are being officiated by a panel of experts drawn from the Department of Youth Services and Sports including Suresh Singh, Jagtar Singh, Satpal Singh, Venus, Gurvinder Singh (all Umpires) and Rajesh Dhar (Match Referee).
