Srinagar, Nov 22: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri on Wednesday said that the authorities are actively considering formal announcement of winter vacations for schools in the Kashmir region.
Talking to media persons in Srinagar, Bidhuri said that the decision on the matter would be finalised within the next day or two, highlighting the comprehensive evaluation of various crucial factors, particularly the potential impact on students’ academic calendars.
“The decision will be executed in a phased manner, intending to begin with primary schools’ closure, followed by middle and higher educational institutions,” he said.
The Divisional Commissioner said that the precise dates for the commencement of the vacation period are poised to be disclosed imminently, offering clarity and planning time for students, parents, and educational authorities.
Reassuring the public of the government’s commitment to safeguarding students’ academic progression, he underscored the careful consideration being given to avoid disrupting the educational rhythm while addressing the necessity for seasonal breaks.
About the prevalent power crisis, Bidhuri acknowledged the discrepancy in adhering to the previously announced power schedule, attributing this to a sudden surge in demand linked to the early arrival of winter in Kashmir.
He said ongoing efforts by a committee formed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Chief Secretary, actively engaged in resolving the issues related to power procurement.
“We are expecting an improvement in the power scenario as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary have constituted a committee over the issue of power purchase and a decision in this regard is expected soon,” he said.
Anticipating a positive outcome, Bidhuri hinted at an imminent decision on this matter, aiming to alleviate the ongoing power supply concerns.
“The Government is aware of the sufferings of people as the unscheduled power cuts are more painful, but the administration is focused on improving the electricity scenario and it is expected to improve within a week only,” he added.
