Kashmir-Based EdTech Startup Koshur Scientist Launches ‘Panah’ to Address Growing Mental Health Challenges Among Youth

Srinagar, May 18: In a major initiative aimed at supporting the emotional well-being of students and young people in Kashmir, Koshur Scientist, a rapidly emerging education technology startup from the Valley, has officially launched Panah, a dedicated mental health and wellness platform focused on providing accessible emotional support, guidance, and mentorship to students.

The platform, launched under the banner of Koshur Scientist, comes at a time when conversations around mental health are becoming increasingly important across educational institutions in Jammu & Kashmir. Rising academic pressure, uncertainty regarding careers, social stress, emotional burnout, and digital isolation have significantly impacted the psychological well-being of young people, especially students preparing for competitive examinations and higher education.

With Panah, the startup aims to create what it describes as a “safe digital space” where students can openly seek emotional support, motivation, mentorship, and mental wellness resources without fear of stigma or judgment.

Founded by young Kashmiri entrepreneur and NIT Srinagar alumnus Muhammad Salman, Koshur Scientist has, over the past few years, gained recognition for building AI-driven educational tools, mentorship initiatives, and student-focused digital learning ecosystems in Kashmir. The startup has been working extensively with students through educational programs, online learning systems, career guidance initiatives, and digital skill-building platforms.

Now, through Panah, the organization is expanding its mission beyond academics to directly address one of the most neglected yet critical aspects of student life — mental health.

Speaking about the initiative, founder Muhammad Salman said the idea behind Panah emerged from observing the silent emotional struggles faced by students across Kashmir.

“Many students are silently battling stress, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, self-doubt, and academic pressure. Unfortunately, mental health is still not openly discussed in many places. Through Panah, we want students to know that seeking support is not weakness — it is strength,” he said.

He further added that the vision behind the platform is not only to provide support during difficult emotional phases but also to help students develop confidence, resilience, clarity, and emotional stability while pursuing their educational and personal goals.

According to the startup, Panah will initially focus on students and youth by offering emotional wellness guidance, mentorship-based support systems, awareness content, stress-management resources, motivational sessions, and community-driven engagement initiatives aimed at promoting mental well-being.

The platform also seeks to normalize discussions around anxiety, emotional fatigue, burnout, overthinking, loneliness, confidence issues, and career-related stress — challenges increasingly being experienced by young people in highly competitive educational environments.

Mental health experts and educators in Jammu & Kashmir have repeatedly highlighted the growing need for youth-focused psychological support systems in the region. Various studies and reports have indicated a sharp rise in stress-related and emotional health concerns among students, particularly after the pandemic and the rapid shift toward digitally driven academic ecosystems.

Observers believe that initiatives such as Panah can play a meaningful role in encouraging early mental health conversations, reducing stigma, and making emotional support more approachable for students who often hesitate to seek help through traditional channels.

The launch of Panah also marks an important step in the evolution of Kashmir’s startup ecosystem, where young entrepreneurs are increasingly building technology-driven solutions focused not only on education and employment, but also on social impact and community well-being.

Koshur Scientist stated that the platform will continue evolving with additional features, guided support systems, mentorship collaborations, wellness-driven initiatives, and partnerships aimed at strengthening student mental health support across the region.

As mental health continues to emerge as one of the defining concerns among today’s youth, Panah represents an attempt to create a more compassionate, supportive, and emotionally aware ecosystem for students in Kashmir — one where academic growth and emotional well-being go hand in hand.
