Srinagar, Jan 23: Jammu & Kashmir State Council of Educational Research & Training, Kashmir Division, has developed a comprehensive English handbook for lecturers, teachers, and masters in Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative aims to enhance teaching methodologies for English educators at the secondary and higher secondary levels.
The handbook is crucial as it provides learning methods and comprehensive guidelines for innovative and 21st-century skills and competencies. By focusing on equity and equality, the handbook promotes inclusivity, especially for socially and economically disadvantaged students.
An official from the SCERT-Kashmir division told Rising Kashmir that learning English is vital for students to become global citizens. “It opens doors to diverse cultural perspectives, enabling them to communicate effectively with people worldwide. Proficiency in English also significantly enhances job opportunities, particularly in international business, education, and technology.”

“In today’s interconnected world, English has become the language of international communication. By mastering English, students in Jammu and Kashmir can access a broader range of educational resources, participate in global discussions, and pursue career opportunities that transcend geographical boundaries, the official said.

He said the handbook’s emphasis on innovative teaching methods and 21st-century skills will help students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration abilities. These skills are essential for success in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

“By providing comprehensive guidelines for English educators, the handbook has the potential to transform the learning experience for students in Jammu and Kashmir, empowering them to become global citizens with enhanced career prospects,” an official said.

He said that under the guidance of Director JK-SCERT, Prof. Dr. Parikshat Singh Manhas, and the mentorship of Joint Director SCERT-Kashmir, Roshan Lal, the Education in Languages branch of SCERT-Kashmir division has developed this handbook specifically for those instructing English subjects in schools from grades 9 to 12.

“This book will be reviewed, and proofreading will be done by the professors from the colleges and universities. When the book get finalized and printed, It will also be disseminated to the lecturers, masters, and teachers who are teaching the English subjects to the students from 9th to 12th grades, “officials said.

He further said that all the DIETs in Jammu and Kashmir will also provide the capacity-building program to English teachers as per this newly developed handbook. It is expected that this book handbook will gets disseminated to the English teachers in the month of April 2025.
