Jammu, Mar 25: Jammu and Kashmir’s International ace Fencer Shreya Gupta has qualified for the Senior Fencing World Cup to be played at Cairo in Egypt from March 28 to March 30.
Shreya along with Olympian Bhavani Devi of Tamil Nadu, Akhri Akhri of Harayana and Alka of Kerala shall represent Indian Women Sabre Fencing team in this prestigious World Cup. Shreya secured her place in the World Cup after performing fabulously and winning Bronze medal in the last Senior National Fencing Championship held at Kerala in January 2025.
It may be recalled that Shreya is the recipient of J&K’s State Award, Sher-e-Kashmir Award, Rangil Singh Award and a few other allied awards in recognition of her outstanding show in the game of Fencing. Shreya has the distinction of winning one Team Silver and two Team Bronze, besides one individual Bronze medal in prestigious Commonwealth Fencing Championship and an individual Bronze medal in Asian Fencing Championship.
Meanwhile, Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul while appreciating the selection of Shreya Gupta has said that Shreya’s laudable performance at national and international levels has brought laurels for Jammu and Kashmir for last many years. She further said under LG Administration and dynamic leadership of Commissioner/Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, a lot of development has taken place in respect of sports infrastructure and performance of sportspersons. Shreya’s Coach Shotu Lal Sharma has always been there in her journey of success besides getting guidance from former International Fencer Ujjwal Gupta.
At present Shreya is receiving training at Vijay Bharat Academy, Ahmedabad under Russian Coach Sasha.
