Pulwama, Aug 18 : The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) is aiming at registering 3000 startups during the next five years.
Talking to Rising Kashmir Director, JKEDI, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, said that so far they have registered around 100 startups.
“We have set up a target to register 3000 start ups for next five years across Jammu and Kashmir,” he said, adding that any private firm with an innovation can register on an online platform ( www.StartupJK.com) to be part of the startup ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
He added that the JKEDI will hand hold the startups by providing them grants or stipend as per the start-up policy of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“JKEDI will also handhold the startups in getting patent rights for developing prototypes,” he said, adding that after developing the prototype the entrepreneur will be free to decide his future.
“The startup owner can seek incubation or sell his patent rights,” Director JKEDI said.
He added that the department can help in incubation of the new startups by mentoring and guidance at JKEDI Pampore or JKEDI Bari Brahmana Jammu.
He said that for commercialisation of prototypes the startups may need funding for bulk production.
“JKEDI can support them in this by seeking their tie ups with other funding agencies,” he said
He added that the startups can be registered at two places, startup India and start up J and K.
He added that around 529 start-ups from Jammu and Kashmir are registered with startup India.
The Director JKEDI said that to encourage youth to become a part of the startup ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir they have been organising various workshops, seminars and conclaves on a routine basis.
He said on these occasions they invite successful entrepreneurs to share their experience with youth to inspire them to pursue their startups dreams.
