Srinagar, Aug 28: The Union Territory of J&K is abuzz with sporting fervour as the Department of Youth Services and Sports successfully organized high-octane kabaddi and cricket tournaments across various districts, showcasing exceptional talent and promoting a vibrant sports culture among the youth.As per a statement issued here, in a magnificent display of athleticism and team spirit, the Inter-District Provincial Level Kabaddi Tournament for All Age Group (AAG) Girls concluded successfully at the scenic tourist destination of Pahalgam in Anantnag. The eight-day event witnessed a spirited display of grit, stamina, and sporting excellence, bringing together the best kabaddi talent from across the Valley. Teams battled it out with great passion in the U-14, U-17, and U-19 categories amidst the breathtaking backdrop of Pahalgam, which added a unique vibrancy to the high voltage clashes. Despite intermittent rains, the event was conducted flawlessly, a testament to the tireless efforts of the dedicated field staff.In the U-14 Girls category, the team from Anantnag district emerged victorious, clinching the title, while Bandipora secured the runners-up position. The third place was secured by Budgam. The U-17 Girls category also saw a dominant performance by Anantnag, who secured back-to-back glory by winning the title, with Bandipora finishing as the runners-up and Kupwara securing the third position. The U-19 category witnessed a commanding performance by Bandipora, who lifted the title with a powerful display, while Pulwama finished as the runners-up and Srinagar secured the third place. The overall tournament highlighted the growing dominance of districts like Anantnag and Bandipora in the sport, with Bandipora qualifying for all three finals.The District Youth Services and Sports Officer of Anantnag congratulated all the participating teams and emphasized that such tournaments are instrumental in instilling sportsmanship, discipline, and confidence among the youth while promoting Kabaddi as a premier competitive sport. The department also extended its special gratitude to the Physical Education field staff of the YSS for their exceptional commitment and outstanding efforts, which contributed significantly to the grand success of the championship.Simultaneously, cricket fever has gripped the district of Kupwara where the much-awaited District Level U-19 Cricket Competitions for Boys have reached their climax. Organized under the annual activity calendar, the tournament has been a fierce and competitive affair, keeping spectators thoroughly engaged. Kupwara and Handwara zones have secured their places in the grand finale after a series of thrilling matches. The final showdown is set to be a thrilling contest between these two cricketing powerhouses at the Galizoo Cricket Stadium. The players are not only battling for district-level glory but also aiming to secure a place in the final squad that will represent Kupwara in the upcoming Provincial Level Competitions.Speaking on the occasion, the Incharge Activities of the District Youth Services & Sports Office in Kupwara reiterated the department’s commitment to providing robust platforms for young talent, ensuring that raw potential is identified, nurtured, and given opportunities to excel at higher levels.
