Srinagar, Sept 20: Jammu and Kashmir has been recognized with the highest achiever awards in Hydro Power Capacity and overall Renewable Energy Capacity, as well as the third-highest achiever in Solar Power Capacity among Union Territories, for its significant contributions to India’s renewable energy goals. The awards were conferred by the Union Ministry for New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) during the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investment Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST), held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
The recognition comes as India celebrates a major milestone of achieving 200 GW of non-fossil power capacity. Jammu and Kashmir’s consistent efforts in expanding its renewable energy portfolio, particularly in hydro and solar power, were key to this achievement.
Representing Jammu and Kashmir at the prestigious event were Commissioner Secretary of the Science & Technology Department, Saurabh Bhagat, and Chief Executive Officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA), Dr. P. R. Dhar. They were joined by other officials from JAKEDA, as the UT was selected as one of the key stakeholders recognized during RE-INVEST.
