J&K Police launches legal crackdown on Social Media misuse,9 held

Srinagar, Dec 09: Jammu and Kashmir Police have taken decisive legal action against nine individuals across Anantnag, Budgam, and Ganderbal districts for their involvement in the misuse of social media platforms.
 This move comes in the wake of explicit warnings issued by district magistrates regarding the potential legal consequences for individuals spreading rumors, anti-national sentiments, and other content that could disrupt the peaceful societal environment.
The Anantnag Police specifically highlighted the initiation of legal proceedings against three individuals: Salman Mushtaq Kuttay, Rameez Ashraf Hadi, and Umer Farooq Ganie (also known as Ghazi Sir). 
These individuals were identified for uploading videos on their social media platforms containing hatred and inflammatory statements. The police urged the public to remain vigilant against such individuals and emphasized that strict legal actions would be taken against anyone engaging in similar activities.
Budgam Police, in their statement, underscored their commitment to maintaining peace and order by taking strict measures against those misusing social media platforms to spread rumors.
 Two individuals were booked and presented before the magistrate, with ongoing investigations into the matter. The police encouraged the public to collaborate with law enforcement in identifying and apprehending individuals engaging in disruptive activities and misusing social media.
Similarly, Ganderbal Police initiated legal action against two individuals, Waseem Mushtaq Malik and Aadil Ahmed Rather, for uploading and sharing hateful content on social media. The police reminded the general public to stay vigilant about the misuse of social media, emphasizing that any attempt to vitiate the environment and disturb public order would be treated seriously.
Baramulla Police reported the initiation of legal proceedings against Bilal Ahmad Wani for uploading hateful videos containing inflammatory and seditious statements on social media platforms.
 Meanwhile, Awantipora Police took legal action against Sheeraz Ahmed Beigh for uploading inflammatory and instigating content.
Talking to media in Bandipora,Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone VK Birdi urged parents to monitor their children’s social media use and counsel them against misuse. 
He said that stringent measures and legal action would be taken against those promoting anti-national or terror narratives on social media, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining peace in the region through lawful means
