After an end to the prolonged dry spell in Jammu and Kashmir parts, the weatherman here has predicted a three-day wet spell from Thursday, saying that the light rains and snowfall is expected for the next three days.

The higher reaches of Kashmir including Sadhna Top, Razdan Pass, Sinthan Top, Gulmarg phase-II and others received fresh snowfall while rains lashed plains on Monday, ending the 50-day long dry spell in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, the weather conditions improved for the two days on Tuesday and Wednesday with parts of Kashmir witnessing an occasional sunshine as well.

The details of forecast shared by the local Meteorological department (MeT) reveal that there is a possibility of light rains and snow (higher reaches) at many places of Kashmir and a few places of Jammu division on Thursday and Friday (November 14 & 15).

Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that the light rain and snow (higher reaches) is also expected on Saturday (November 16) at scattered places of J&K.

However, he added that the weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry from November 17 to 23 in J&K.

Besides, an advisory was issued by the MeT here, advising the tourists and travellers to plan accordingly during 14th night and 15th of this month.

As per the advisory, the MeT has said that temporary disruption of surface transportation due to light snowfall over Zojila, Razdan Pass, Sadhna Pass, Sinthan Top and Mughal Road is also expected during November 15.

Pertinently, on Tuesday almost 8 inches of snowfall accumulated at Sinthan top while Sadhna top recorded 5 inches, Gulmarg phase 2-4 inches, Pir Ki Gali 3 inches and Baltal Pahalgam 1-2 inches.

The fresh snowfall came as a breather for J&K as the prolonged dry spell here had brought the drought like situation with the water level in the river Jhelum and other streams dropping to all-time low, impacting the water supply across Kashmir—(KNO)
