Ganderbal, July 31: Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) J&K, Khurshid Ahmad Shah (JKAS), and District Development Commissioner (DDC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore on Thursday jointly reviewed the water supply scenario in the district and took stock of progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission.According to a statement issued here, the review meeting was held to assess the ongoing civil and mechanical works under JJM, as well as to expedite efforts to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to the remaining households in the district. A detailed PowerPoint presentation was delivered, outlining the status of various water supply schemes in the region.As per officials, out of 88 sanctioned projects under the PHE Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal, 53 schemes have been completed, while work is underway on the remaining projects. Additionally, out of eight mechanical schemes overseen by the PHE Rural Mechanical Division, Srinagar, seven have been successfully completed. The infrastructure developed so far includes borewells, rapid and slow sand filtration plants (RSFP and SSFP), overhead tanks (OHT), general service reservoirs (GSRs), pump rooms and pipe networks.Addressing the meeting, Mission Director Khurshid Ahmad Shah set strict timelines for the completion of pending works. He instructed officials to prioritise the commissioning of schemes that have already achieved over 75% progress. “Our goal is not just infrastructure development, but to ensure every rural household receives clean drinking water. Officers must act with urgency and accountability,” he said. The chair was informed that of the total 49,057 rural households in Ganderbal, 48,277 have been connected with FHTCs. The MD urged officers to fast-track the provision of the remaining connections and ensure certification of ‘Har Ghar Jal’ villages as per National Jal Jeevan Mission (NJJM) protocols. DC Ganderbal Jatin Kishore, in his remarks, commended the efforts made so far and emphasised the importance of resolving land-related and administrative bottlenecks without delay. “Any hurdle in execution, whether land disputes or inter-departmental issues, must be reported immediately so that we can facilitate their resolution through coordinated efforts,” he said. The MD also directed the Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, District Informatics Officer, and the Executive Engineer to upload the details of Panchayat Secretaries of all 126 panchayats in the district on the JJM Information Management System (JJM-IMS 2.0) dashboard within the current week.
