Srinagar, May 12: The subscribers of Jio mobile and internet services in Srinagar areas are facing network problems, saying it is causing inconvenience and financial losses.
Complaints have been reported from various areas, including MA Road Srinagar, where educational institutions like Government College for Women and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Kothibagh are located, as well as Chanapora, Budshah Nagar and Naveedabad Tengpora Bypass.
The issue is particularly acute along Srinagar’s renowned Maulana Azad Road, where subscribers experience inconsistent network problems, especially near educational institutions. This has led to difficulties in making online payments and disruptions in communication.
Despite seeking assistance from the telecom operator, subscribers express disappointment at the lack of resolution.
Shopkeepers and individuals like Muzaffar Beigh said they face problems such as delayed online payments and sudden network outages.
“We have been facing severe problems in online payments. Most of the time, money is credited but we don’t receive the SMS or it takes too much time. Sometimes, the money is debited but the beneficiary doesn’t receive it because of network issues,” he complained.
He added, “Many times, the network suddenly gets disrupted which makes it more difficult for us to communicate on the phone.”
Sabreena Farooq, a student, said the poor Jio network has impacted her daily life, especially regarding online financial transactions.
Senior J&K Vice President Corporate Affairs-Reliance Jio official acknowledged the issue. He said this is caused due to network overload and space constraints for installing additional equipment.
The official explained the challenges faced in addressing network issues in crowded areas like Lal Chowk. “The company previously had towers atop the Dharmarth Trust building in the area, but they were removed. Currently, we are searching for alternative locations to install these towers, but they are encountering issues with the municipality,” he said.
“The problem is primarily due to network overload, aggravated by the area’s crowded profile and lack of space to install additional equipment. Despite efforts to find suitable locations, including finalising some places, we are facing obstacles due to old buildings and infrastructure limitations,” he added.
The official assured that efforts are ongoing to find alternatives. He expressed hope that the issue would be resolved within two days.
