Mendhar, Sep 17: Javed Rana, President Pir Panjal Zone JKNC and former legislator has alleged embezzlement and misuse of crores of rupees in the procurement of materials for Eklavya Model Residential School (ERMS) Bhera located in Mendhar Tehsil of Poonch district. He has demanded a high-level investigation into the matter.
Rana in a statement voiced his deep concern over the absence of fundamental amenities in ERMS Bhera. He asserted that the deficiency poses a significant challenge to the educational journey of students, as they lack essential facilities such as proper sanitation, electricity, drinking water, books, Internet access, and a well-equipped library.
The former legislator emphasised that these shortcomings not only hinder the learning process but also affect the overall well-being of students and teachers. He called for the immediate provision of basic amenities at ERMS Bhera.
“Access to quality education is a fundamental right that every child should enjoy, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds,” he said, adding that basic amenities like books, internet access, an auditorium, a playground, a conference hall, alternative power arrangements, proper sanitation, and access to clean drinking water are essential for creating a conducive learning environment.
Javed further highlighted the need for students to have a comfortable and well-equipped space for focusing on their studies and exploring their full potential. He said adequate sanitation facilities are crucial for maintaining health and hygiene. “Ensuring quality education and basic amenities in schools will contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of the Pir Panjal region. Well-educated students are more productive members of society, positively impacting the community and the nation as a whole,” he added.
He also expressed concern over the delay in the release of class 6 results for the new batch, which has caused frustration among the public.
In light of the urgency in addressing this issue, the senior NC leader called on the government to take the initiative in providing adequate facilities to the school. He stressed that schools should be seen as the foundation for achieving sustainable developmental goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with the government ensuring access to quality education for all students. He also emphasised the vital role of community and parental support in achieving this goal.
Rana urged the government to order a probe over the alleged embezzlement and misuse of crores of rupees in the procurement of materials for Eklavya Model Residential School (ERMS) Bhera. He also sought the availability of school uniforms and books and said the government must ensure all basic amenities for the students.
