Jasia  Akhter from Shopian district got berth in inaugural Women’s Premier League

Shopian, Feb 13: Star female cricketer, Jasia Akhter,from South Kashmir’s Shopian district has got berth in the inaugural Women’s Premier League(WPL) after she was brought by Delhi capitals for rupees 20 lakh in auctions on Monday at Mumbai.
A total of 409 players from 15 countries were on the auction list.
Talking to Rising Kashmir on the phone Jaisa Akhtar said that the selection is a big moment in her life.
“This a big event, I am so overwhelmed by the selection in the inaugural WPL that I am unable to express my happiness in words,” she told, saying that for the past two days, she was tense as the auctions were coming close.
She said that her family members were praying for her selection and today prayers of her family members were answered.
Jasia turned emotional by narrating how her family members were praying for her selection.
“I was talking with my family and learnt that my brother has not taken even a single morsel of food since today morning,” she said.
The player was auctioned to Delhi capitals for Rs 20 Lakh“The initial bid started at Rs 10 lakh and sealed at Rs 20 lakh,” Jaisa said. 
WPL is a T20 cricket league organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
BCCI had received 1525 registrations out of which 246 native players and 163 overseas players were included in the auction list.
Jasia Akhter from Braripora village of Shopian and Sarla Devi from Jammu were two players from the UT to figure in the list of 409 cricketers which went under the hammer on Monday.
Jasia was figuring at serial 250 while Sarla was at serial 305 in the WPL auction list of players.
Jasia has had a good season this year and is figuring at the top in the ODI ranking for domestic cricket and at number two for T20.
She has 500 plus ODI runs and 590 T20 runs.
Jaisa dreams to play for the Indian women’s cricket team.
“The tournament will help me to groom my talent and will try to give my best so that I can achieve my dreams by coming to the notice of selectors,” she said.
She added that there is a lot of excitement among her family members and fans and every one of them has been calling her or dropping congratulatory messages on her phone.
Jasia has been playing from Rajasthan state for the past two years.
The right-handed batter opens her team and has been elevated to the position of captain.
Previously Jasia played for Punjab, Trailblazers and India Reds.
She was also called for National camp for India women’s national team in 2017 but was unable to find a place in the playing eleven.
The 34 right-handed batter started playing professional cricket in 2010.
