Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police on Wednesday issued a detailed advisory for vehicular movement on September 11 across major highways, including the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), Mughal Road, Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) road.
An official said that NH-44 has not been fully restored at Tharad in Udhampur. “Though LMV traffic was allowed on trial basis today, vehicles got stuck on the slippery stretch and had to be pushed through JCBs and loaders. Given the wet surface, movement of HMVs cannot be permitted until the road dries up,” the advisory reads.
Subject to fair weather and road condition, tomorrow (Thursday) only one-way traffic for LMVs shall be allowed from Jammu towards Srinagar between 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM from Nagrota.
Meanwhile, Mughal Road will remain open for LMV passenger/private cars from Srinagar towards Jammu via Poonch, with cut-off timings up to 5:00 PM from Herpora (Shopian). Fruit-laden HMVs (six-tyre trucks only) will also be allowed from Shopian towards Poonch before 10:00 AM. However, no HMV will be permitted from Jammu towards the Mughal Road.
On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road (NH-244), subject to clearance from NHIDCL and fair weather, only LMVs shall be allowed from both directions. Vehicles from Parana towards Anantnag will be permitted between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, while traffic from Daksum towards Kishtwar will be allowed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, as per earlier orders of SDMs Chhatroo and Kokernag.
On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) road, regulated traffic will continue. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 5:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM. No vehicle will be permitted after cut-off timings.
The advisory also directed security forces to plan their convoys on the SSG road in a manner that does not disrupt civilian traffic.
People have been advised to confirm the road status before undertaking any journey by contacting Traffic Control Units at Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur, Kishtwar and Kargil on the notified helpline numbers.
