Srinagar, Aug 27: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday expressed sorrow and concern over the devastating floods that have severely impacted several areas of the Jammu region. He expressed grief over the death of over 30 pilgrims who died in a tragic landslide while performing the yatra towards Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine. Dr Abdullah, in a statement issued here, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.In his message, he extended his condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones, homes, property, and livestock in this calamity.The NC chief appreciated the swift and compassionate response of the Omar Abdullah-led J&K government. “The timely reachout and rescue operations undertaken by the administration have saved countless lives and brought much-needed relief to those stranded,” he said.He urged the central government to immediately release financial and logistical assistance to aid in relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts. “This is a time for unity and collective action. The people of Jammu need the full support of both the local administration and the Centre,” Dr Abdullah emphasised.Dr Farooq appealed to NGOs, civil society organisations, and citizens to come forward in solidarity to support the ongoing relief effortsMeanwhile, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President & Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have extended heartfelt greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Khwaja Digar, to be observed at the revered shrine of Hazrat Naqshband Sahib (RA) at Khawaja Bazaar in Srinagar on the third day of Rabi-ul-Awal.In his message, Dr Farooq said the centuries-old tradition of offering congregational Asr prayers on this day at the shrine is deeply rooted in the socio-cultural fabric of Kashmir. “It is a day when people from all walks of life gather in unity to offer prayers and supplications, seeking spiritual strength and communal harmony,” he said.He further added that on this sacred occasion, religious scholars reflect on the life, teachings, and immense contributions of Hazrat Khawaja Baha-ud-Din Naqshband Bukhari (RA), a revered figure held in the highest esteem by the people of Kashmir. “I hope the day enhances the prospects of peace, prosperity, and communal harmony in Jammu and Kashmir,” Dr Farooq said.CM Omar Abdullah, extending his greetings to the people, expressed hope that the occasion brings blessings and unity among all communities.Among others, the party’s General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar, also greeted the people on the auspicious occasion.
