Srinagar, Nov 09: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, successfully concluded the first-of-its-kind initiative “Women for Water, Water for Women” campaign, under its flagship scheme Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), in partnership with the Ministry’s National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM). The campaign, which commenced on Tuesday culminated on Thursday with an overwhelming response from women Self Help Group (SHG) members across the state.
The three-day campaign witnessed participation from 341 SHG members visiting 23 Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) across Jammu and Kashmir. The WTP locations include Boria Pumping Station, Kalka Colony, Bahu Fort Jammu – Sitlee, Nagrota Bye Pass, Jammu – Rangil Ganderbal – Alustang Srinagar/Ganderbal, Ompora Colony Budgam, Kunzar Batapora Magam, Beerwah, Zuhama Chadoora, Mono Chrar-i-Sharief, Bumzoo Mattan, Katsoo Bijbehara, Pampore, Katra, Sopore, Sumbal, Hajin, Shopian, Awantipora, Baramulla and Udhampur Towns.
They were given an in-depth understanding of the vital procedures involved in delivering clean and safe drinking water to households and gained insights into water quality testing protocols. The campaign aimed to empower women SHGs to play an active role in water conservation and management. The participating women also took a pledge to make judicious use of water, committing to conserve and use water resources wisely. They pledged to join hands to protect this precious resource through thoughtful actions and diligent decision-making.
The campaign has served as a platform to recognize the valuable contributions of women SHGs in water management.
