Jammu, Aug 23: Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh on Wednesday said that 99% of infiltration bids and attempts to smuggle weapons and drugs from across the border have been foiled by the security forces this year.
“Conspiracies are being continuously hatched by the Pakistani agencies and the terror outfits to send weapons, narcotics and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from across the border to India,” he said, while adding, “I am happy and satisfied that the security forces are alert on the borders and have been foiling each such attempt,”
This was stated by the DGP while responding to the queries of media persons on the sidelines of a function here held for foundation laying ceremony of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) headquarters at Sidhra, by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. “The situation in J&K is all well,” the DGP said, while adding, “The security forces are too alert and as a result the infiltrators are being pinned and neutralised by the forces at the place of our choosing”.
Many encounters have taken place on borders this year and attempts to smuggle weapons, IEDs and narcotics have also been foiled, which is testimony of the alertness our security forces, the further said and reiterated, “99% such attempts have been foiled this year,” he said. The DGP also referred to the recovery and diffusion of IED in Nagrota area of Jammu and credited the security forces for the joint efforts. The DGP said, the border security grid is much stronger now than ever with the addition of “new elements”. Regarding protests about suspension of toll collection at Sarore, the DGP said that people have every right to protest but “but the common people must not be put to any inconvenience”.
