Srinagar, Sept 16: The Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu & Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, emphasized the eradication of terrorism from the Union Territory and expressed satisfaction that the region was making significant strides towards a zero-terrorism policy. He extended his gratitude to the people for their pivotal role in the fight against terrorism.
During the 3rd Northern Regional Police Coordination Committee meeting held at the Police Headquarters in Srinagar, the DGP noted that terrorism in J&K has reached its lowest levels.
“This year, J&K’s security team has successfully neutralized approximately 40 foreign terrorists and nine local terrorists,” he stated. He also highlighted the significant decrease in local involvement in terrorist activities, attributing it to the effective synergy among security forces that has pushed terrorists from villages and cities to remote mountainous areas.
DGP Dilbag Singh underscored the collaborative efforts of J&K Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the Army, Intelligence agencies, and the Civil administration as a unique model for making Jammu & Kashmir a terror-free region. He mentioned the transformation from a time when stone pelting on security forces was a regular occurrence to the current state of peace.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the security team in J&K has ensured zero violations of human rights, with no civilian casualties in law and order engagements over the past few years.
The meeting also addressed concerns such as the drug menace, the rising trend in cybercrime, and the use of drones for smuggling drugs and contrabands across the border.
Discussions also revolved around creating an Inter-State database and communication channels between police forces for better coordination and intelligence sharing regarding organized crime, human trafficking, and other matters.
DGP Dilbag Singh highlighted the enforcement of the rule of law as the guiding principle for J&K’s security team, stressing that action has been taken against individuals involved in anti-national activities and their instigators.
The meeting saw the participation of high-ranking officers from various Northern States/UTs, including Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Ladakh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, among others.
