Illicit poppy cultivation stretched over 80 kanals destroyed in Kulgam

Kulgam, May 10: On May 10, a coordinated action by local authorities in several villages in Kulgam district, South Kashmir, led to the destruction of illicit poppy crop cultivation spreading over 80 kanals. The officials confirmed that this operation was part of a larger campaign to combat drug addiction and promote a healthier, safer community in the region.
According to Bilal Ahmad, the Tehsildar of Kulgam, they have already destroyed illegal poppy stretching over an area of 236 Kanals in the Kulgam tehsil. In this recent action, a joint team of the Revenue, Police, and Excise departments destroyed 80 Kanals of poppy cultivation in the villages of Hanad, Nursingpora, Mohammadpora, Tazipora, and Adijan Devsar.
In another operation, the team led by the Tehsildar, SHO Kulgam, and other officials eradicated illegal poppy cultivation in the hamlet of Brazloo. The cultivator has been booked, and legal action has been initiated against them.
Tehsildar Kulgam warned that people involved in poppy cultivation must destroy it themselves, or they will face legal consequences. The local authorities are determined to eradicate the illicit crop and promote a drug-free society.
 
Police destroys Poppy cultivation in Awantipora
Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police in Awantipora have destroyed poppy cultivation spread over vast area of land in Lethpora area.
A police party led by SHO Police Station Awantipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Mumtaz Bhatti destroyed huge quantity of poppy cultivation spread over nearly about 13 kanals of land at different locations in Lethpora area.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Awantipora against the illegal poppy cultivators and further investigation has been initiated.
Police have once again advised all those who have cultivated Poppy or any other narcotic substances anywhere in Police District Awantipora, to destroy the same on their own, failing which they shall face strict action under law.
General Public is requested to extend cooperation to the Police and come forward with any information regarding any kind of anti-social activity in their neighbourhood.
