Jammu, July 23: ‘Hawalaat’ – a Hindi satire written by famous playwright and satirist Sarweshwar Dayal Sexena was presented under the direction of Neeraj Kant here on Sunday at Natrang Studio Theatre in connection with Natrang’s weekly show ‘Sunday Theatre’. The play was assisted by Sushane Dulloo and the publicity of the play was designed by Vanshika Pandoh. The play proved to be a hard hitting satire on the establishment which has failed to tap the most energetic human resource of the country. The dejected youths’ cry has been beautifully portrayed in the play.
The story of the play ‘Hawalat’ revolves around three youth who have no place to live. It was the coldest night of the winter and they were without food and shelter. Since nobody was ready to offer them the shelter, they thought it proper to have the same in a police lock-up. For this they approached a police cop as criminals. But for some time the cop is not ready to believe them and asks them to establish their credentials by demonstrating their expertise in crime and past accomplishments. They try to convince him by giving a series of logics. To avoid them, the cop agrees to take them to the lock-up (Hawalat) after tying their eyes. Instead of taking them to the police station, the cop keeps taking them round and round at one cross road and finally leaves at the place from where they had started.
“The play is a big satire on the exploitation of the youth by the present system. The people in power continue to sell them dreams through their hollow slogans and no one is able to realize that the most important task force of the country at their prime is getting wasted. The politicians of the country have been befooling the youth since independence in the same way the cop played with them,” the organizers said.
Chirag Anand as a police cop has been at his best and portrayed both the inner and outer conflict of such a complex character. The three youth were played by Aadesh Dhar, Abhimanyu Choudhary and Sumit Bandaral. Their timings and perfect moves were highly praiseworthy. The lights of the play were executed by Neeraj Kant whereas the sound was rendered by Sushane Dulloo. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen and the presentations were done by Brijesh Avtar Sharma.
