Srinagar, Nov 27 : The Kashmir valley resonated with religious fervor and joyous celebrations on Monday as the Sikh community came together to commemorate the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the revered founder of Sikhism.
Despite cold temperatures, the faithful, including women and children adorned in colorful dresses, flocked to Gurdwaras across the region from early morning.
According to KNS, the central celebration took place at the historic Gurudwara Chatti Padshahi, situated at the foothill of Kohimaran in Rainawari, Srinagar.
Despite the chilly weather, a significant gathering of Sikhs, spanning various age groups, arrived from different parts of the city to participate in the main function.
The atmosphere was filled with devotion as special prayers and hymns echoed through the sacred precincts.
Noteworthy personalities, including the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, and leaders from various political parties, extended warm greetings to the Sikh community on this auspicious occasion. The diverse gathering at Gurdwara Chatipadshahi reflected the unity and inclusivity of the celebrations, with members of the Muslim community also seen extending heartfelt greetings to their Sikh brethren.
Special langars were set up in Gurdwaras to cater to the devotees, emphasizing the spirit of community service and hospitality integral to Sikh traditions.
Similar religious functions were organized in various locations, including Jawahar Nagar, Sanant Nagar, Srinagar, Baramulla, Tral, Uri, and Pulwama.
The celebration transcended the boundaries of the Kashmir valley, as devotees in Kargil and Leh, braving below-freezing temperatures, offered special prayers on this momentous occasion. The display of faith and communal harmony was further evident as the All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) extended heartfelt greetings to people worldwide celebrating Gurupurab.
The 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in Kashmir was not merely a religious observance but a vibrant demonstration of cultural richness, unity, and shared festivities that echoed across diverse communities in the valley.
The day began with the recitation of hymns and prayers, emphasizing the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who preached the values of equality, compassion, and oneness. Devotees engaged in community service, extending their support to those in need as a reflection of the Guru’s teachings on selfless service.
Speaking on the occasion, members of the Sikh community expressed their gratitude for the peaceful coexistence and camaraderie in Kashmir. They emphasized the significance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings in fostering understanding and respect among people of different faiths.
Security arrangements were in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations, with local authorities working closely with community leaders to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. (KNS)
