Jammu, August 24: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday visited the Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, to enquire about the condition of those injured in the devastating Chashoti cloudburst in Kishtwar, which has so far claimed at least 65 lives, with 32 people still missing.
Sinha interacted with the injured and was briefed by doctors on the specialised and integrated treatment being provided. A total of 16 patients are currently admitted and are reported to be stable. “I am hopeful they will recover soon,” he told reporters.
Calling the floods a “terrible incident,” the Lieutenant Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to rescue and relief efforts, stating that operations are continuing on a war footing to trace the missing. He said the Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar remains in constant contact with affected families and is coordinating access to impacted areas as weather and road conditions permit.
“Government stands firmly with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. Along with relief and rescue, the Government of India and the J&K Administration are working in parallel to ensure quick rehabilitation,” Sinha said.
He also confirmed that the administration has released Rs 4.13 crore in immediate relief and reassured victims and their families that “no effort will be spared.”
Urging residents to strictly follow weather advisories, Sinha noted that NDRF and SDRF teams are on alert and prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging emergencies. “We have to do everything. I promise you, full support will be extended to every affected family,” he said.
