Anantnag, Aug 26: Government Primary School Nagbal Panzath in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been renamed after a martyr who sacrificed his life while fighting terrorists in an encounter in 2017.
A police spokesperson in a statement issued here said, “In order to honour the supreme sacrifice offered by the valiant warrior ASI Abdul Rashid Shah, son of Gull Mohammad Shah, a resident of Panzath, Wanpora while fighting with terrorists at Mehandi Kadal Anantnag on 28 August 2017, the Government Primary School Nagbal Panzath is dedicated (to him).”
Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Qazigund, Headmaster of the school, Auqaf committee members, SHO Police Station Qazigund along with other officers and officials of the district administration, Kulgam Police and the family of the martyr were present on the occasion. The students of the institute sang patriotic songs in memory of Martyr Shah.
Speaking on the occasion, SHO Police Station Qazigund said, “Martyr Abdul Rashid Shah was very helpful and popular among his colleagues. He was a very courageous and brave policeman.”
Other officers also spoke on the occasion and paid rich tribute to Shah. They said that by this initiative of the government, youth would learn about the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs, the spokespersons said, adding, “Not only it will nurture a feeling of nationalism among the citizens but also immortalise the martyrs, who will be remembered by their names.”
