Jammu, Apr 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday reviewed the implementation of ration distribution under the Special Relief Ration Scheme for Kashmiri and Jammu migrants, along with the extension of social sector benefits to eligible families.
Principal Secretary, Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction, Chandrakar Bharti convened a meeting to review implementation of the ration distribution in terms of the Special Relief Ration Scheme for Kashmiri/Jammu Migrants and extension of benefits of social sector schemes to the eligible migrants.
During the meeting, it was informed that over 17,500 migrant ration cards have already been integrated into the National Food Security Act (NFSA) database, while around 8,000 more are in the process of integration.
Officials said ration distribution under the scheme commenced on April 18, 2026, across migrant camps, with arrangements made at 32 designated depots in Jammu district to ensure smooth and hassle-free access. Beneficiaries have been allowed to collect rations from any nearby depot, with similar arrangements in place across other districts of Jammu province.
The government has amended relevant food security rules to facilitate integration of migrant ration cards with the NFSA database, enabling beneficiaries to access a range of welfare schemes. Authorities reiterated that all eligible beneficiaries will continue to receive 11 kg of free ration per person per month along with 1 kg of sugar as per existing norms.
To prevent any disruption, the government has approved a one-time extension for April 2026 ration distribution into May. Officials also directed departments to expedite the integration process and organize special camps to help migrants access schemes such as pensions, scholarships, and healthcare benefits.
So far, around 450 families have benefited from various social welfare schemes following the integration of their ration cards.
The administration said efforts are underway to fully operationalize the system for all migrants at the earliest.
