Srinagar, Oct 23: The Jammu and Kashmir government Sunday put the amendments made in the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, in abeyance till further orders.
A notification issued by Commissioner Secretary to government Social Welfare Department, Sheetal Nanda and reviewed by Rising Kashmir reads that the “Notification S.O No.537 dated 19th October 2022 issued vide endorsement no. SWD-BCC/14/2022 dated 19.10.2022 shall come into force from the date as may notified by the Government and shall remain in abeyance till further orders,”
Official sources told Rising Kashmir that there was no appointed date in the earlier order and to avoid a piecemeal approach this has been put in abeyance. “It will be issued again to ensure all are included with an operational date,” sources added.
It may be recalled that on Wednesday, government had ordered redrawing of Social Caste List, with the inclusion of 15 new categories by amending the J&K Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004.
Among those included in the list were refugees from West Pakistan Refugees (WPR) excluding SCs who had settled in Jammu, Gorkhas members from the Jat community, Waghey (Chopan), Ghirath/Bhati/Chang community, Jat community, Saini community, Markabans/PonyWalas, Sochi community, Christian Biradari (converted from Hindu Valmiki), Sunar/Swarankar Teeli (Hindu Teeli along with already existing Muslim Teli), Perna/Kouro(Kaurav), Bojru/Decount/Dubdabay Brahmin Gorkans , Gorkhas and Acharyasa.
