Srinagar, Oct 17: The School Education Department Monday issued an order for all private and government schools of Kashmir valley to conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) on 26th of every month.
Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir in an order said that it is impressed upon all the school heads of both government and recognised private schools to conduct Parent-Teacher meetings on 26th of every month.
He said that in case of any holiday on the said date the meeting to be conducted on the next working day.
“Parent-teacher meeting is an essential part of schooling along with the education and learning of students which helps in enhancing and boosting the student’s engagement in the learning system,” Mir said in a circular.
He said that the meeting is an opportunity to share the academic progress, observation in the classroom and home, assessments, and their interaction with teachers, friends, etc.
“Conducting effective parent-teacher meetings can boost family involvement in classrooms and help in promoting positive outcomes for teachers, students and the school,” Mir said.
The director further added that the parent-teacher meeting is a great opportunity to share academic progress and growth based on classroom observations, testing data, assessments, portfolios, and assignments.
“Learn from parents or guardians so that teachers can be better informed about student’s strengths, needs, behaviours, and learning styles,” reads the order.
He also said that the minutes of the meeting should be documented and the follow up action on the issues cropped up during the conduct of such meetings should be documented and addressed properly.
