Kishtwar, June 26: The Government Higher Secondary School Keshwan in Kishtwar hosted a Standard Writing and Plantation Drive on its premises, starting at 11:00 AM. The event, conducted under the guidelines of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), included various curricular activities and was led by Er. Dheeraj Prakash Shan, a resource person from BIS.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness among students about the significance of standards. Er. Dheeraj Prakash Shan explained the purpose of the event and educated students on various standards published by BIS, including product standards, methods of tests, codes of practices, and service standards. He used common examples to illustrate the importance of standards in daily life and guided students through the structure of an Indian Standard, covering foreword, scope, references, raw materials requirements, finished product requirements, methods of sampling and testing, packaging, and marking requirements.
Sixty-five students from classes 9 to 12 participated in the standard writing competition. The performances were outstanding, making it challenging for evaluators to select the winners. Ultimately, Neeraj Sharma of class 10 received the first prize, Asya Banoo of class 10 was awarded the second prize, and Aqib Mir of class 10 secured the third prize. Rubyna Banoo received the consolation prize.
Principal Rakeshwar Sharma congratulated the winnersand commended Mentor Gh. Mohd Kripak, faculty members, and students for their participation and efforts in making the event successful. He encouraged students to adhere to standards in skill development and utilize BIS standards in their daily lives, spreading awareness within their communities. The principal emphasized the importance of hard work, domain knowledge, and the role of soft skills and extracurricular activities in personality development.
The event concluded with the distribution of mementos and cash prizes to the winners and medals to all participants by the Principal, Resource Person, faculty members, and the Mentor.
Following the standard writing competition, the school’s Standard Club organized a plantation drive. This initiative aimed to raise awareness among students, faculty, and stakeholders about the significance of trees for a sustainable future. The drive also sought to create green belts and fulfill aesthetic and recreational needs.
