Anantnag, Nov 13: Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag is set to receive a long-awaited MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine by April 2025, said Principal Prof (Dr.) Rukhsana Najeeb on Wednesday.
Prof Rukhsana confirmed that the MRI machine has been procured, with installation expected by April 2025, following necessary formalities.
“The MRI is high-end equipment, and suitable placement is crucial,” she said, adding that Block A has been identified as the installation site and is in the final stages of construction.
She said that currently, GMC Anantnag relies on two CT scanners, ultrasound machines, and digital X-ray systems to meet diagnostic needs. However, the addition of the MRI machine will significantly enhance diagnostic services.
“We are committed to making the MRI available at minimal charges, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the region for this essential test,” Prof Rukhsana said, adding that the new machine requires no major maintenance for 15 years.
Established five years ago, GMC Anantnag has grown from a district hospital into a key healthcare provider, serving patients from South Kashmir, including the districts of Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, and Anantnag, as well as patients from areas beyond the Jawahar Tunnel.
GMC Principal said that the hospital currently attends to around 3,000 outpatients daily across its affiliated facilities, including Sherbagh Maternity and Child Care Hospital, Mirza Muhammad Afzal Beg Hospital in Janglaat Mandi, and additional units in Brakpora and Sagam.
