GGM Science College clinches Men’s and Women’s Chess titles

Jammu, Sept 26: GGM Science College achieved a remarkable double victory at the Intercollege Chess Tournament 2024-25, organized by Cluster University of Jammu, hosted at Govt. College of Education, Jammu under the overall supervision of Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Director of Physical Education and Sports at CLUJ, and supported by Ramandeep Kralia, Physical Director at Govt. College of Education Jammu, the tournament was a great success.
In a spectacular display of strategy and skill, GGM Science College outperformed its competitors in both the men’s and women’s categories, securing both trophies for the College. In the men’s category, GGM Science College defeated Govt. SPMR College of Commerce with a score of 3-1, while in the women’s category, the College triumphed over PSPS GCW Gandhi Nagar by the same score of 3-1. This outstanding performance by both teams earned GGM Science College the prestigious chess trophies in both categories. The matches were officiated by Mr. Sushil Kumar, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all participants.
Dr. Romesh Gupta, Principal of GGM Science College, congratulated both the men’s and women’s teams for their incredible achievements. He also praised the efforts of Dr. Vinod Bakshi and Dr. Sunil Dutt, Convener of Sports, for their dedication in elevating the sports culture at the College. Dr. Gupta emphasized the importance of co-curricular activities, stating, excelling in both sports and academics enhances the overall profile and achievements of our institution.
This dual victory at the Intercollege Chess Tournament highlights GGM Science College’s commitment to fostering talent both on the sports and in the classroom, marking a proud moment in the College’s history.
