Jammu, Jan 21: The gang war raised its ugly head in Jammu after more than thirty years as a gangster was shot dead in the busiest Jewel area of Jammu City in broad daylight on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, Sumit Jandyal, alias Gataru, is reported to be the kingpin of the Gataru gang and was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) last year. The 37 year old Sunil Jandial was a resident of Vijaipur, ward number 5.
There were gang wars in Jammu in the 90s and after that all gangsters were killed by the rival gangs or by the Police in encounters.
On Tuesday afternoon, three people intercepted a red coloured Thar at Jewel Chowk and opened fire at Sumit Jandiyal. He was immediately shifted to GMC, Jammu, where doctors declared Sumit as brought dead.
Meanwhile, no one has been arrested so far but the Police has collected the CCTV footage from various areas of Jewel area and is examining those in detail to identify the killers.
“We are investigating the matter but so far no one has been arrested,” SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh told Rising Kashmir. Sources said that Police have got some vital clues after examining the CCTV footage and statements of the eyewitnesses.
