Ganderbal, June 22: The Jal Shakti department in Ganderbal district has issued a stern warning to the residents, urging them to refrain from the misuse of drinking water. In a bid to tackle this issue, the department has announced that legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty of misusing water, accompanied by a hefty fine of ₹10,000.
The Chief Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti department, expressed concern over numerous complaints received regarding the misuse of drinking water in various locations, including kitchen gardens, pathways, fields, and orchards. He highlighted instances where individuals had improperly attached motors to the water supply pipes and were utilizing the drinking water for purposes such as car washing.
To combat this problem effectively, the department has established a dedicated squad comprising members from the police force, including both men and women, as well as personnel from the Jal Shakti Department. This squad will conduct inspections of households to identify any instances of water misuse. Those found to be misusing the water supply will face a fine of ₹10,000 and may be subject to imprisonment for up to two years, in accordance with the law.
Chief Engineer appealed to the public, urging them to prioritize the responsible use of drinking water and refrain from employing it for non-essential domestic purposes. He emphasized that attaching motors directly to the main water supply line is a grave offense, as the department strives diligently to maintain the cleanliness and availability of drinking water to address the needs of the populace.
Furthermore, Engineer informed that he had met with the District Development Commissioner, who expressed a clear directive to take strict action against individuals involved in the misuse of drinking water. He asserted that the Jal Shakti department would not tolerate the wasteful use of water, nor would it allow anyone to harass fellow citizens for access to water resources.
In light of these developments, it is crucial for the residents of Ganderbal district to abide by the regulations pertaining to the proper use of drinking water. The Jal Shakti department remains committed to ensuring the availability of clean water for all, and any violation of these guidelines will be met with rigorous enforcement and penalties.
