Srinagar, May 18: As part of the G20 Summit celebrations, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) organized a series of activities across Jammu and Kashmir. These events aimed to encourage youth participation in sports and promote the region’s overall development.
In Pulwama, the DYSS inaugurated a Kho Kho tournament for under-19 players at the Women’s Degree College Pulwama. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from teams representing all districts except Kupwara. Participants showcased their skills, aiming to secure a place in the next level of the competition. During an evening gathering, the officers from the Department of Youth Services and Sports boosted the participants’ morale and assured them of the district administration’s full cooperation.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar, a Mega Cycle Race event was organized by the District Youth Service & Sports Office, Zone Amirakadal. Over 150 participants, including students and locals, competed in the race. The winners were honored in a grand ceremony at BHSS Khonmoh, where they received medals and certificates from the Zonal Physical Education Officer.
In Zone Chandoosa, a Road Race for boys was organized, with over 100 participants from 25 schools, both government and private. The event was aimed at promoting sports among young generations and keeping them away from the social evil of drugs. The awards ceremony took place at BMS Chandoosa, where the top performers were recognized.
In Baramulla, the Provincial Level Inter-District Handball Boys U/19 Competition was inaugurated at the Indoor Sports Stadium. District teams participated in the tournament, which was played on a League cum Knockout basis. The semi-finals and finals are scheduled to take place on Friday.
Furthermore, the Department of Youth Services and Sports Kupwara successfully organized Inter-Zonal District-level and Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions in various disciplines. These competitions were held at zonal and district headquarters, and the winners will represent the district in the upcoming Inter-District Level competitions.
The G20 initiative also inspired activities in Anantnag, where a rally with the theme of Anti-Drug Awareness was organized by Zone Qazigund. Around 400 students participated in the rally, which aimed to educate them about the G20 Summit.
Moreover, in Budgam, a Padyatra (a walkathon) was organized in Zone Soibugh to commemorate the G20 Summit and promote youth involvement in sports and physical activity. The event witnessed the participation of 160 girls and 250 boys, emphasizing the summit’s objective of empowering young people.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports remains committed to fostering sportsmanship and providing platforms for young athletes to showcase their talents. These events not only promote physical fitness but also contribute to the holistic development of youth in the region. The G20 Summit’s initiatives continue to create a positive impact on the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
