Kulgam, Nov 20: A residential house was partially damaged in a fire incident on Monday morning in Malpora Astan Bazar in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
According to an official, the fire broke out at around 8:30 am, engulfing the residential property belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Hassan Shah, of Malpora Kulgam.
The Fire and Emergency Services promptly arrived to extinguish the fire that had affected the three-story house. “The upper storeys of the house suffered severe damage. Our initial assessment indicates approximately 50 lakh rupees worth of property was involved, with about four lakh rupees worth of property damage,” an official from F&ES said.
He said preliminary reports suggest the fire’s cause was a short circuit.
The tehsil administration in Kulgam plans to evaluate the extent of damage caused by the fire and aims to assist the affected family under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) guidelines.
“We have provided them with immediate relief, including blankets, and will further process their case under SDRF norms. We visited the damaged residential house and firsthand assessed the damage caused by the unfortunate fire incident,” Tehsildar Kulgam, Bilal Ahmad said.
The increasing number of fire incidents is a cause for concern, necessitating administrative action to implement preventive measures and curb the rising trend of fires in Kashmir.
