Jammu, April 21: In a significant step towards strengthening the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in Jammu and Kashmir, a District-Level RAMP (Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance) Awareness Workshop was organised at Udyog Bhawan, Jammu.
The event was a collaborative initiative by the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation (JKTPO) and Grant Thornton Bharat LLP (SPIU for RAMP), in partnership with the district Industries Centre (DIC), Jammu. This marks the third in a series of outreach workshops designed to boost awareness and capacity-building among MSMEs, stakeholders, and implementing agencies under the RAMP scheme—a flagship programme of the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.
The RAMP initiative is being implemented under the overall supervision of the Industries and Commerce Department of J&K, with JKTPO as the nodal agency. Sudarshan Kumar, Managing Director of JKTPO, underscored the transformative potential of the scheme, stating, “Under the leadership of Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, JKTPO is committed to transforming the MSME landscape in J&K. RAMP has the potential to be a game-changer for our entrepreneurs, driving growth and innovation across the region.” The SPIU Team presented key interventions approved under RAMP for Jammu and Kashmir, including—formalisation of MSMEs through Udyam registration, enhanced packaging and promotion of GI/ODOP/DEH/unique products, formation of producer companies/associations under cluster development programmes, organisation of Buyer-Seller Meets (BSMs) and Reverse Buyer-Seller Meets (RBSMs), establishment of the J&K MSME Health Clinic and RAMP M&E Dashboard and implementation of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programmes (ESDP) and Management development Programmes (MDPs) for existing entrepreneurs. The workshop was chaired by Ashok Kumar (JKAS), Joint Director (Development), Industries and Commerce, Jammu. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from MSME entrepreneurs, industry associations, departmental officials, and representatives from Handloom and Handicrafts, NABARD, Labour and Employment, LDM Jammu, Government Polytechnic Jammu, Cooperative Societies and DIC Jammu. SPIU consultants and departmental officials engaged in a vibrant discussion, responding to participant queries and reaffirming the UT Government’s commitment to the effective grassroots implementation of RAMP.
The workshop also highlighted the launch of MDPs by JKEDI in 15 districts from 15 April 2025, benefiting over 300 participants. Meanwhile, the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Kashmir has initiated an Awareness cum Formalisation Drive across Pulwama, Anantnag, Kupwara, Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal, and Baramulla to bring unregistered enterprises into the formal economy. The event concluded with a unified resolve from all stakeholders to work collaboratively, ensuring the MSME sector in Jammu and Kashmir becomes more competitive, resilient, and future-ready.
