JAMMU, Dec 09: The elections for the two vacant Assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will be held by or before April 10, 2025, according to highly placed sources. As per election rules, the vacant seats must be filled within six months of being vacated.
The two vacant seats are Nagrota in the Jammu region and Budgam in the Kashmir region. The Budgam seat became vacant after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah resigned from it, having won from two constituencies, while the Nagrota seat fell vacant following the death of former BJP MLA, Devender Rana.
Sources within the BJP have indicated that Devyani Rana, the daughter of the late BJP MLA from Nagrota, is likely to receive the party’s nomination for the constituency.
Devender Rana had won the Nagrota seat in two successive terms, and the BJP has reportedly decided to give the mandate to his daughter due to the strong roots and public support the Rana family enjoys in the region.
