Kulgam, May 10: A dumper driver was electrocuted to death in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district in the early hours of Friday morning while unloading sand.
An official said that the driver, Showkat Ahmad Parray (27), son of Abdul Hammed Parray, a resident of Tahab Pulwama, was unloading sand in Kousarbal village when he came into contact with a high-tension (HT) wire and was electrocuted to death.
According to locals, the incident occurred in the early morning hours while the driver was unloading materials. His trailer, after being hydraulically lifted to unload, came into contact with the HT power line. They alleged that the line was “slightly” dangling.
Fayaz Ahmad, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Damhal Hanjipora, told Rising Kashmir that the power line was well within norms and was not dangling as alleged.
“People could see that the electricity line was not anywhere near the ground and was in accordance with standard norms,” he said.
“It is an unfortunate incident of electrocution of a dumper driver. However, the ground clearance of the 11 KV HT line is according to standard norms,” the AEE said.
